How I Discovered Astral Projection: From Sleep Paralysis to My First Out-of-Body Experience

Person experiencing their first astral projection, floating above their sleeping body with a glowing silver cord connecting them in the astral plane.

How I Discovered Astral Projection (and How You Can Too)

Astral projection is a fascinating, natural extrasensory ability we all possess—one that allows us to consciously explore realms beyond the physical body. Most people encounter this phenomenon accidentally, often during sleep paralysis or vivid dreaming, without understanding its spiritual significance.

But what if I told you that these strange experiences could be doorways to something truly extraordinary?

This is the story of how I discovered astral travel, and how one night changed my life forever.

A Question That Haunted Me Since Childhood

I was born in Mexico and raised Catholic. From a very young age, I was obsessed with one question:
What lies beyond this world?

What’s beyond space? Where does it end? Where is God?
While my teachers in Catholic school talked endlessly about heaven and hell—mostly hell, to be honest—they never gave answers that felt complete. It seemed like no one around me was willing to explore the unknown. But I was.

Then one day, while reading a science textbook, I came across something that hit me hard:

“Human life consists of five stages:
We are born.
We grow up.
We reproduce.
We age.
We die.”

Even as a kid, that sounded empty—like life was just a loop designed to serve a system. It couldn’t be all there was. I knew, deep down, that there was more to discover.

My Early Fascination with the Supernatural

As a kid, I spent hours immersed in comic books, UFO magazines, and books about ghosts, magic, and psychic abilities. I wanted to believe. But despite all my reading, I never had any supernatural experiences myself.

I even bought a Ouija board once. Guess what? Nothing happened.

So I moved on. But then, something happened that would crack the door open for me...

The Mysterious Game My Mom Played as a Child

One day, my mother shared a strange childhood memory. She and her sister would lock themselves in the bathroom, sit quietly, and chant:

“I am I, I am I, I am I…”

To her surprise, she began feeling herself leave her body, floating invisibly through the house. Her sister could do it too. But their mother, spooked by the experience, told them to stop—insisting it was dangerous.

That story stuck with me. I had to try it.
So I did… but nothing happened.

Still, something had shifted inside me.

Nightmares, Sleep Paralysis, and the First Clues

Like many kids, I was plagued by terrifying recurring nightmares—monsters chasing me, trying to tear me apart. Eventually, I learned a trick: I could force myself to open my real eyes and wake up.

That ability became my first practice in controlling dream states.

Then came the strange part…

After escaping a nightmare one night, I opened my eyes and saw my room—but I couldn’t move. I was fully conscious, but paralyzed. Panic took over until I blacked out. This kept happening, and I had no name for it. At one point, I honestly thought I might be possessed.

It wasn’t until years later that I learned the truth.

The Moment Everything Changed: My First Astral Projection

While studying abroad in France, I had another sleep paralysis episode while traveling with friends. I mentioned it to one of them, and she casually said:

“Oh, that’s astral travel. It happens to me too.”

Those two words changed everything.

I began researching how to astral project—though back in the early 2000s, resources were limited, especially in Spanish. Then, by chance, I found an obscure website that offered a single technique using a mantra:

LA RA SS

The instructions were simple:
Lie down, relax, and chant the mantra as you drift to sleep.

That night, I gave it a try.

LA RA SS… LA RA SS… LA RA SS…

My body tingled. I felt vibrations ripple through me. Then—blackout.

The Dream That Wasn’t a Dream

I found myself dreaming I was a kid again, standing in a field with my younger brother. He handed me a wand and said,

“It’s for you.”

The moment I touched it, a surge of energy coursed through my body—and suddenly, I was no longer dreaming.

I was floating.

I looked down and saw my physical body in bed, a glowing silver cord connecting me to it. I had done it.
I had left my body. I had entered the astral plane.

Overcome with excitement, I floated toward the window, ready to explore the universe. But as I tried to phase through the glass, something yanked me back. In a split second, I was sucked into my body like a rubber band snapping—and I woke up, gasping.

That was my first out-of-body experience.
That was the moment everything changed.

The Astral Plane: What You Can Discover

Since that night, I've learned that astral projection offers more than just out-of-body travel—it’s a path to:

  • Connect with higher consciousness and spirit guides

  • Explore other dimensions and spiritual realms

  • Access hidden knowledge and past lives

  • Heal emotional and energetic wounds

  • Gain deep insights into your soul’s purpose

We are so much more than our physical bodies. And the astral realm is where that truth becomes undeniable.

Final Thoughts: You Can Do This Too

If you’ve ever experienced sleep paralysis, vivid dreams, or just a strong sense that there's more to reality than what we see—trust that instinct. Astral projection isn’t just for a chosen few. It’s a natural ability we all have, waiting to be unlocked.

That one night changed the course of my life—and it can change yours too.
